Nayr was born in 1947 AA, a spirited young wolf raised on a chicken farm near Verwick Castle. His father, a former Ranger of Draufgrin, taught him the arts of tracking and archery, while his mother, a gentle nurse, nurtured his compassion and culinary skills. As a boy, Nayr apprenticed under Eorlund Gray-Fang, an elderly former knight of Úlfrinn turned blacksmith, who treated him like a grandson. Nayr, in turn, admired the knights passing through Verwick and dreamed of joining their ranks.

One day, while pretending to be a knight, Nayr discovered a wounded Barghest pup beside its dead mother. As he tried to help the pup, a monstrous creature attacked, leaving Nayr with a scarred face. His father and Gray-Fang arrived in time to drive the beast off. Nayr took the pup home, naming her Niylah, and the two formed an unbreakable bond.

Niylah grew into a formidable companion, able to carry Nayr on her back. With Gray-Fang’s recommendation, Nayr eventually earned a place among the Knights of Úlfrinn. During his early days as a squire, he led a reconnaissance mission into the Anvil Peninsula. On their return, they discovered Castle Sendra under siege, the surrounding countryside in flames. Enraged, Nayr led a night assault on the bandit camp with Niylah at his side. Though the raid succeeded, his reckless actions injured his comrades, leading to his demotion.

Confined to menial duties, Nayr heard news of a monstrous threat terrorizing Verwick. He and Niylah joined the king's expedition to hunt the beast. Though they did not capture it, the king reinstated Nayr and promoted him to captain of the 100th Division of the Tenth Legion. After Gray-Fang's death, Nayr inherited the family heirloom sword, Zympter—a legendary blade rumored to be forged from dragon bone and Kasargorian steel.

In 1965 AA, a conflict erupted between the fiefdom of Úlfrinn and the neighboring state of Zösremm. During a fierce cliffside battle, Niylah sacrificed herself to save Nayr from a ballista strike, plunging them both into the sea. Nayr washed ashore, where he buried his loyal companion. Returning to Verwick, Nayr became a wraith-like figure, cutting down enemy soldiers and rescuing prisoners, but failed to prevent the execution of his mother and father. He eventually found the king tortured and killed by Kazarkaan, the war’s mastermind, and after a brutal duel, avenged his family by cutting down the alpha wolf. As a consequence, the remaining heirs of Kazarkaan have placed a substantial bounty on Nayr's head.

With his homeland in ruins and his loved ones gone, Nayr buried the last ties to his past and set off as the Wandering Knight, seeking justice and redemption in the wider world of Aerodan.
